Musette initiation, induction of officers conducted

The Harlan Musettes initiation ceremony was held at Harlan Baptist Church recently. The choir initiated four new members and inducted officers for the 2017-2018 year.

Musical selections were presented by the initiates. They sang “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana and “Makin’ Memories.”

“Musette Memories Will Last a Lifetime” was the theme for initiation. Each new member was presented a silk yellow rosebud and pearl earrings from their big sister.

New members are Kaycee Bennett, Mackenzie Combs, Emma Jones and Abbi Witt.

Alumnae moms that had Miss Schraeder as a director are Cristi Bargo, Kim Blanton, Heather Burkhart, Michelle Doss, Jessica VanWinkle and Missy Witt. Clara Atkins-Pope, assistant-director/accompanist, is also a Musette alumna.

New officers inducted were Mackenzie King, president; Brooklyn Collins, vice-president; Courtney Cozart, secretary; Ashley Overbay, treasurer; Carlie Hatfield, I soprano section leader; Katie Bargo, II soprano section leader; Shayna Collins, alto section leader; Lydia Cassim, pictorial manager; Makenna Doss, librarian, and Lauren Nunez, historian.

Following the induction ceremony, Stevie Collins read the 2016-17 vice-president’s note from Mackenzie Lankford, and presented Brooklyn with the book; Mackenzie received the president’s book after her mom, Amy King, read the 2016-17 president’s note from Tiffany Hampton.

The officers sang ”Bridge Over Troubled Water” before forming the traditional friendship circle. Marilyn Unthank, who became a member of the Musettes in 1945, presented Musette Director Marilyn Schraeder her original Musette pin.

The Musettes sang “Candle on the Water” and “May the Light of Christ” in the candlelit circle.
