Huff leads Dragons over Williamsburg

Maddox Huff scored 25 points and Nate Montanaro added 14 as Harlan rolled past visiting Williamsburg in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action Monday.

Williamsburg won 40-37 in fifth- and sixth-grade action as Riley China led the Jackets with 17 points.

Will Shepherd paced the Dragons with 11 points.

Harlan returns to action Friday at home against Jenkins.

Cumberland drops doubleheader at Jenkins

Cumberland opened its regular season schedule Monday with a pair of losses at Jenkins.

Darius Akal scored 16 to lead the Redskins in a 44-38 loss in seventh- and eighth-grade action. Jonah Mumford added 10, followed by Tyler Lunsford with seven, Alex Creech with four and Stephen Childers with one.

Kayden Adams scored five and Brayden Casolari added two as Cumberland lost 52-8 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Black Bears tourney set for Saturday at HCHS

The seventh- and eighth-grade version of the Black Bears Preseason Tournament will be held Saturday at Harlan County High School.

Cawood will play Evarts in the opening game at 10 a.m. Rosspoint will play the Cawood-Evarts loser at 11 a.m. Wallins will take on Cumberland at noon, with James A. Cawood playing Black Mountain at 1 p.m.

The semifinals are set for 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., with the championship game to follow.
