LEXINGTON (KT) — When the Las Vegas Summer League tips off Friday, 13 former Kentucky players will be part of the event.
The league will feature all 30 NBA teams, including a pair of International squads. Tyler Herro (Miami Heat) and Wenyen Gabriel (Sacramento Kings) are currently playing in the California League. Keldon Johnson (San Antonio Spurs) is playing in the Salt Lake City League this week.
Like Herro, Johnson had an impressive debut, pouring in 29 points in a 99-84 win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Herro scored 18 points in his debut earlier this week.
“(I’m proud) of Keldon and Tyler, who are off to fast starts with their teams in the NBA Summer League,” Calipari tweeted. “Can’t wait to see what PJ Washington and Reid Travis do.”
The Summer League teams will compete in preliminary games before being seeded in a tournament that concludes with a championship game on July 15.
Former Kentucky players Reid Travis (Atlanta Hawks), Aaron Harriso (Boston Celtics), Mychal Mulder (Chicago Bulls), Jarred Vanderbilt (Denver Nuggets), Issac Humphries (Los Angels Clippers), Kebin Knox (New York Knicks), Hamidou Diallo (Oklahoma City), Derek Willis (Phoenix Suns) and Skal Labissiere (Portland Trail Blazers) will join Herro, Gabriel and Johnson in the Las Vegas. PJ Washington of the Charlotte Hornets has been listed as doubtful for the league.
All games will be carried on various media platforms on ESPN.
Former Kentucky player Enes Kanter signed a 2-year, $10 million contract with the Boston Celtics . Kanter averaged 13.1 points and 8.6 rebounds for the Portland Trail Blazers last season.
Calipari was glad to see Kanter land with the Celtics.
“Enes helped our team to the Final Four without playing a single game by making us better in practice every day,” Calipari said. “The Celtics should be right there atop the Eastern Conference next season.”
