The Harlan County Community Scholarship Banquet will be held April 29 at the Harlan Center. Anyone wishing to give a scholarship at the banquet should have their selections completed by April 23 for recipient information to be included in the event program. Bloodroot, a literary magazine of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College, is seeking submissions and contest entries from Appalachian writers in short fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and art. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will hold a Hunter Education Course beginning at 9 a.m. on March 2 at the Harlan County Extension Depot, 110 River Street in Harlan. The hunter must attend the session and pass an exam to be certified. All hunters born on or after Jan. 1, 1975 must complete this course. The hunter must be at least 9 years of age to be certified. The Love it, Don’t Trash it community clean-up will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on March 16, sponsored by #Withlovefromharlan. Participants will meet at the upper level of the Harlan Center. The third annual Kingdom Come State Park Miniature Golf Tournament will be held on April 5. Registration is from 5 to 5:45 p.m. and the tournament starts at 6 p.m. Ages 5 and up are welcome to compete with individual and couples categories. Awards will be given to first place winners. The annual Harlan County Run With Color 5K will be held on April 13 beginning at 9 a.m. This 5K takes place in the heart of downtown and runners will pass through six stations where they will be covered in color powder and liquid.
