Lady Dragons fall to Thomas Walker

Visiting Thomas Walker (Va.) outscored Harlan 17-2 in the second quarter on Saturday as the Lady Pioneers claimed a 48-33 victory.

Lakin Burke and Shelbie Fannon combined for 35 points for Thomas Walker.

Ella Karst knocked down four 3-pointers in the first quarter as Harlan led 17-11 after eight minutes of play.

Burke scored nine of her team-high 19 points in the second period. The Lady Pioneers held Harlan to two points in the second quarter. Thomas Walker took a 28-19 lead at halftime.

Defense stepped up for both teams in the third quarter. Harlan outscored the Lady Pioneers 8-6 in the period but trailed 36-25 entering the final quarter.

Fannon scored six of her 16 points in the fourth period for Thomas Walker. Harlan had just one field goal in the quarter and connected on six of 14 free throws.

Karst paced the Lady Dragons with 21 points.

Harlan struggled at the free throw line, hitting only seven of 22. It was Harlan’s second game without senior forward Natalee King, who served a suspension.
