Nally & Hamilton Enterprises to lay off 170 workers

Another mine announced on Oct. 29 a number of potential layoffs set to take place at the start of 2020.

Nally & Hamilton Enterprises sent letters to Kentucky Division of Workforce and Employment Services and Harlan County Judge-Executive Dan Mosley, which was received on Monday, to inform them of the layoffs said to take place in Harlan, Leslie, Laurel, Nelson and Bell counties.

“In accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act of 1988 [WARN], we write you to inform you that up to 38 employees may be laid off at Bailey’s Creek, Cranks Creek and Day Branch mines on or about Jan. 1, 2020,” the company said in its letter to officials.

Nally & Hamilton also told officials, “Additional information about the anticipated duration of the layoff, the existence of bumping rights and a list of the job titles and positions affected is available upon request.”

The company is projected to lay off 170 workers on or around the start of the year, including 21 from Leslie County, nine from Laurel County, five from Nelson County, 97 from Bell County and the 38 from Harlan County.
