Dragons lose twice at South; Lady Bears win at Campbellsville

The Harlan Green Dragons closed their summer schedule with a pair of losses Monday at South Laurel. The Dragons lost 73-62 to Corbin and 62-49 to South Laurel.

The Dragons played most of the day without guard Jordan Akal, who suffered a knee injury in the first quarter against Corbin. The injury didn’t appear to be serious, but Akal didn’t return to action.

Senior center Jon Eldridge scored 19 points to lead the Dragons against Corbin. Sophomore guard Jaedyn Gist added 13. Akal scored nine before going out of the game. Kaleb McLendon added eight, followed by Johann Gist with seven and John Mark Bryson and Charles David Morton with three each.

McLendon scored 16 and Jaedyn Gist added 14 to lead Harlan against South Laurel. Eldridge scored nine. Johann Gist added seven. Morton contributed three.

Harlan ended the summer with an 8-13 record.

Harlan County opened play in the Campbellsville University Team Camp with a pair of victories Monday.

Junior guard Jacey Lewis hit four 3-pointers and scored 12 points to lead the Lady Bears in a 31-26 win over Taylor County. Morgan Blakley added nine points. Kelly Beth Hoskins and Hannah Wood scored three each. Kassy Owens and Jaylin Smith added two each.

Blakley scored 15 as HCHS defeated Spencer County 27-24. Wood added eight. Owens scored four.
