Harlan, Cumberland open season with wins

Harlan and Cumberland each opened the middle school softball season with victories.

The Lady Dragons edged Cumberland 6-5 on Monday as Carley Thomas and Addison Jackson each drove in three runs. Thomas had a triple and single. Jackson added a double and single.

Reagan Jones struck out two in two innings on the mound. Thomas struck out four in two innings to earn the win.

K. Duckworth drove in three runs with a double to lead the Cumberland offense. C. Maggard singled twice. K. Collins had one single.

Estep pitched a compete game for Cumberland with 11 strikeouts.

Cumberland opened its season on Friday with a 17-2 rout of Barbourville.

Alexis Sergent led the Lady Skins with an inside-the-park homer and a single. Halle Raleigh singled twice. Lola Maggard added a double. Katelyn Rogers contributed a single.

Rogers earned the win on the mound as she gave up six hits.
