Lee avenges loss to Lady Dragons

Harlan earned its first win of the season last month with a 66-60 victory over Lee, Va. The Lady Generals gained revenge Monday in similar fashion with a 65-60 win at home.

Shelbie Fannon led the Lady Generals with 25 points. Kandace Quillen added 12.

Harlan (5-13) was led by senior guard Payeton Charles, who poured in 25 points. Junior forward Natalee King added 21.

The Lady Dragons grabbed an early 15-9 lead with Charles and King combining for all their points. Harlan took a 32-26 lead into the halftime break as King scored eight points in the second period.

Lee outscored Harlan 18-12 in the third quarter to pull even as Fannon had five baskets for 10 points.

Charles scored eight of Harlan’s 16 points in the final period as Lee pulled ahead with Fannon scoring nine points, including six of eight at the line. Lee hit nine of 12 free throws as a team in the quarter.

Harlan returns to action Friday at home against Knox Central.

Harlan won 33-26 in junior varsity action as Emma Owens led the Lady Dragons with 15 points. Angel Wynn scored seven. Makayla Sizemore and Aymanni Wynn added four each. Ella Morton tossed in two. Faith Hoskins added one.

Drew Cox led Lee with eight points.
