Blakley, Swanner lead Skins to win over Black Mountain

The Cumberland Redskins bounced back from their first loss of the season to win 47-21 on Thursday at Black Mountain in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action. Seventh-graders Brayden Blakley and Jonah Swanner led the 6-1 Redskins with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Hayden Jones scored four points to lead Black Mountain.

Jacob Clark hit two free throws in the closing seconds of overtime to lift Black Mountain to a 37-35 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade game. Reggie Cottrell led the Tigers with 23 points.

Darius Akal scored 14 points to pace the Redskins.

Black Mountain plays at Wallins on Tuesday. Cumberland travels to James A. Cawood on Jan. 2.

Huff scores 34 points as Dragons win at Stinnett

Jackson Huff poured in 30 of his 34 points in the second half as Harlan won 74-70 at Stinnett in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Cade Middleton added 13 points and Trent Noah contributed 11 points. Huff led the 10-6 Dragons in rebounds with 15.

Dalton Asher led Stinnett with 27 points.

Harlan won 49-19 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Maddox Huff scored 16 and Trent Noah added 15 for the 13-0 Dragons. Nate Montanaro scored six, followed by Will Cassim and Cameron Gray with four each and Jackson Luttrell and Matthew Nunez with two each.

Ward scores 21 as Evarts edges JACES in overtime

Jayden Ward scored 21 points and John Long added 10 as Evarts defeated visiting James A. Cawood 49-42 in overtime in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Cameron Lester poured in 29 points for the Trojans.

Dion Brown scored 20 points and Matt Long chipped in with 10 as Evarts won 48-38 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

James McMillian led JACES with 23 points. Landon Brock scored 13.

Evarts won 2-0 in the fourth-grade game as Hayston Bennett scored the only two points.

Evarts plays at Green Hills on Tuesday. James A. Cawood will travel to Cawood on Tuesday.

Jacob Collins poured in 13 points as Cawood (4-2) overpowered Green Hills 45-7 on Thursday in fifth- and sixth-grade basketball action.

Keithan Shepherd led Green Hills with five points.

No information was provided on the seventh- and eighth-grade game.

Cawood returns to action Tuesday against JACES. Green Hills plays host to Evarts on Tuesday.
