Celebrating life in Harlan

Kathy Fox-Jones and Century 21 recently sponsored “Celebrating Life in Harlan County,” with the event bringing together numerous Harlan Countians who gathered for the fun and excitement of the Christmas holiday season.

Jones, a Century 21 real estate agent, said it seemed like the perfect time of year to host an event that not only recognized the Century 21 company, but also gave the residents an opportunity to come together and simply enjoy the celebration of life in the county.

“It’s all about just getting together and enjoying each other’s company and celebrating our life here in this beautiful area,” Jones said. “It’s sort of like a beautiful Christmas party for us to get together and just reminisce.“

The event, held at the Harlan Center last week, gave those in attendance not only a fun and exciting chance to reminisce, but also yielded great food such as homemade 15-bean soup and other delicious delicacies made by Jones and her husband, Tim Jones.

Games, which yielded prizes for the players, included guessing the dollar amount of groceries inside a filled shopping cart, guessing the number of jelly beans inside a jar and a door prize drawing. Numerous gifts were given away during the “guess the song” game, hosted by DJ Jim Helton.

The opening of the event was led by Dr. Bill Helton, of Clear Creek Baptist College, who began his opening remarks with a prayer.

Jones said the event was a great success, allowing Harlan Countians to come together during the Christmas season for the sole purpose of celebrating life and sharing special moments in each other’s company.
