Steven Douglas, Kentucky State Police Vehicle Enforcement Public Affairs Officer, issued a press release on Thursday regarding a pursuit that led to a crash in Harlan on Wednesday evening.

Douglas said at approximately 4 p.m. KSP Vehicle Enforcement Officer John Bledsoe stopped a white 1997 Monte Carlo after observing the vehicle operating in a unsafe and reckless manner.

“Once obtaining the operator’s license of the driver, Bledsoe found William A. Brock, 68, of Cumberland, to have multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest including possession of firearm by a convicted felon,” Douglas said. “Upon returning to the vehicle, Brock took off at a high-rate of speed leading Bledsoe in pursuit for over a mile before he crashed his vehicle near the entrance of Breathitt Trailer Park on U.S. 119. Brock was able to flee on foot but was apprehended a short distance from the scene by officer Bledsoe. “

Brock was cited to court instead of being arrested due to injuries he sustained in the crash.

Brock was charged with first- and second-degree fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, reckless driving, wanton endangerment, failure to produce insurance and failure to wear a seat belt.

The incident is still under investigation by Bledsoe.
