Outstanding efforts by members of the Evarts Elementary School’s UNITE Club during the 2016-17 school year earned them the UNITE Excellence Award for elementary schools in the east region. The award recognizes clubs that have gone above and beyond to spread the anti-drug message through unique and innovative programs within both their school and community, as well as establishing strong mentoring programs.

April Freeman, UNITE Service Corps member, was the club’s sponsor last year. The current sponsor is Carol Sparks. The club was presented the award by Tom Vicini, deputy director and coalition coordinator of Region 2 (Bell, Clay and Harlan counties).
