Harlan County High School senior Eli Estep spent a weekend recently playing in a tournament with some of the best high school golfers in the state at the J.B. Holmes Cup at the Old Bridge Golf Club in Danville.

Estep was selected after a strong performance in the Southeast Kentucky Junior Golf Tour, which included seven events during the summer.

A member of Team Kentucky, Estep participated in three matches during the competition and was paired with Connor Kirkham, of McCracken County. All matches were in the Ryder Cup style match play former and Estep’s team went 1-1-1 in the competition. Estep won his final individual match and helped lead Team Kentucky to a 24.5-23.5 win over Team J.B. Holmes.

“I am very proud of what Eli has been able to accomplish over the course of his senior year,” said HCHS golf coach Anthony Carruba. “Eli played well throughout the summer to be selected to participate in this event and his strong play continued throughout the high school season. He performed very well in the event and as always he represented the high school and his hometown with a very high level of character and class.”
