Evarts man dies in logging accident

On Dec. 4, at 10:18 a.m., Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call of a logging accident off of KY 568 in the Cranks community of Harlan County.

Preliminary investigation indicates John Williams, 36, of Evarts, was injured while working. Trans-Star EMS was dispatched to the scene to assist. Upon arrival, the EMS workers were advised Three States Coal Sales and Logging Company had removed Williams from the scene and transported him by vehicle to an awaiting ambulance. Williams was deceased upon arriving at the ambulance. Harlan County Deputy Coroner Jim Rich responded to the scene and pronounced Williams deceased.

KSP Det. Josh Howard also responded to the scene and began an investigation. Det. Howard requested for an autopsy on Williams which was scheduled to be performed Wednesday in Frankfort at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
