Fatal collision involving county dump truck

A life was lost as a result of a collision between a car and dump truck early Wednesday morning. At 8:54 a.m., Kentucky State Police troopers responded to the two-vehicle collision on U.S. 119 in Loyall, with one person transported to Harlan ARH and pronounced dead.

Kentucky State Police reconstructionist and troopers arrived on the scene shortly after to begin conducting an investigation. U.S.119 was also closed until the investigation was completed.

The following statement was released from Harlan County Judge-Executive Dan Mosley’s office in response to the crash:

“This morning, one of our county road department dump trucks was involved in a fatal accident on U.S. 119 near the intersection of KY 840. The county employee involved was not injured as a result of this crash and we are very thankful for that. We are fully cooperating with Kentucky State Police and Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement authorities who are investigating this crash. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the individual killed in this accident.”

This is an ongoing investigation and the names of those involved have not been released by KSP. The Enterprise will give an update if the information is later released.
