Lady Dragons fall to Red Bird in All ‘A’

Harlan fell 25-22, 25-23 in a hard-fought opening match at the 13th Region All “A” Classic Friday at Pineville.

No scoring information was available for Harlan.

The Lady Dragons stayed perfect in 52nd District competition with a 25-16, 25-11, 25-14 win on Thursday at Middlesboro. No scoring information was submitted on the game for the Lady Dragons.

Harlan fell 25-16, 25-6, 25-15 at Oneida Baptist on Tuesday. The Lady Dragons were led by Natalee King with one ace, one dig, two blocks and two kills. Lauren Nunez added four digs. Haven Saylor contributed three digs and an assist. Hannah Jones added two digs and a kill. Emma Fisher had two digs. Madelyn Haynes added one dig.

Harlan (5-3) will return to action on Monday at home against Pineville.

Harlan County earned its first victory of the season with a 25-20, 25-15, 17-25, 25-19 win over Barbourville on Aug. 29.

Dixie Ewing led the Lady Bears with 12 aces, five digs, six assists and three kills. Serenity Whitehead had eight aces, 13 digs, four assists and five kills. Lily Caballero had 11 digs, one ace, four assists and five kills. Hannah Jones contributed 14 assists, three aces, one dig and four kills. Lindsey Browning added six digs, one ace and six kills. Paighton Freeman had five digs and five kills. Brenna Early had six assists. Carlee Stevens had five digs. Olivia Minor aded four digs and six assists.

The Lady Bears followed that win with a 25-17, 14-25, 16-25, 28-26 and 15-12 loss to Pineville, then fell 25-11, 25-19, 25-9 to Thomas Walker, Va.

Minor led HCHS against Pineville with 41 digs, 26 assists, four aces and four kills. Freeman had 13 digs, 19 assists and 14 kills. Jones had 51 assists, along with three aces and two kills. Whitehead had eight digs, eight assists, seven aces and 14 kills. Ewing added 16 digs, 19 assists and 16 kills.

Whitehead had three aces, 17 digs, six assists and five kills against Thomas Walker. Minor added 35 assists, 22 digs and a kill. Early added 23 digs and three assists. Ewing had 12 digs, seven assists and nine kills. Freeman had 14 assists, nine digs and two kills. Jones had 19 assists and two digs.

Harlan County (1-5) will travel to Bell County on Tuesday.
