HMS students collect food for Ann’s Pantry

Students from the Harlan Independent Schools collected food and helped stock Ann’s Food Pantry on Friday.
Ann’s Pantry was formed in honor of Harlan United Methodist Church member and teacher Elizabeth Ann Turner Heck, who died of cancer in 2014. Heck was a very active member of the church up until her death. The pantry is located inside the church in her memory.
Harlan Elementary School and Harlan Middle School students observed and discussed the needs of their local community as part of a community service project led by their teacher, Barbra Ledford.
After brainstorming possible solutions and ways they could help or make a difference, students decided to collect non-perishable food items to support Ann’s Pantry. By doing so, students hope to help feed their neighbors as an act of love, kindness and support for their fellow community members.
Since the middle of June, Ann’s Pantry has helped close to 400 individuals of various backgrounds, but donations are always needed.
