Lady Bears win two of three in Christmas tourney

Harlan County bounced back from a slow start Friday in the opening round of the Jack Burford Classic by racing to an 18-5 lead after one quarter Saturday on the way to a 55-32 rout of Henry Clay at Madison Central High School.

It was the third straight win for HCHS and second win in tournament play.

Senior forward Morgan Blakley led the 3-2 Lady Bears with 18 points and nine rebounds. Kelly Beth Hoskins added 11 points.

Henry Clay (3-6) was led by Allison Stone with 15 points.

Harlan County concludes tournament play on Sunday against the tournament host Lady Indians at 1 p.m.

Harlan County was unable to complete a three-game sweep at the Jack Burford Classic at Madison Central as the host Lady Indians outscored HCHS 22-6 in the second quarter on the way to a 62-51 win.

Jekauri McKeithen scored 20 points and Taleya Todd added 18 for the 4-5 Lady Indians, who rallied after trailing 15-11 after one quarter.

Senior forward Morgan Blakley led the 3-3 Lady Bears with 18 points. Senior guard Hannah Wood hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points

Harlan County will play in the Hyden Citizens Holiday Classic on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Bears will play Owsley County and Leslie County on Friday and East Ridge on Saturday.
