Musette initiation, induction of officers held

The Harlan Musettes initiation ceremony was held at Harlan Baptist Church. The choir initiated 16 new members and inducted officers for the 2019-2020 year.

Musical selections presented by the initiates were “More Precious Than Silver,” “Always Sing Your Song” and “You Will Be Found” with Eliza Smith and Bailee Maples singing the solos.

“Sparkle Like a Diamond” was the theme for initiation.

Each new member was presented a silk yellow rosebud and a pearl necklace and earrings from their big sister. New members are Adeline Allison, Haley Barger, Hayley Fuson, Lacie Garland, Peighton Jones, Jaden Lane, Devyn Lowe-Ford, Bailee Maples, Abigail Myers, Campbell Nunez, Mia Claire Pace, Krisha Sajnani, Kenzie Snelling, Eliza Smith, Tiffanie Vessell and Abigail Wynn.

Alumnae moms at initiation that had Marilyn Schraeder as a director are Cindy Allison, Michelle Doss, Aimee Pace, Londa Jo Roark, Jessica VanWinkle and Missy Witt.

Clara Atkins-Pope, assistant-director/accompanist, is also a Musette alumna, and had Schraeder as a director. Nancy Harris Allison, grandmother of Adeline Allison, attended initiation. She was also in the Musettes.

New officers inducted were Lauren Nunez, president; Makenna Doss, vice-president; Abbi Witt, secretary; Sarah-Ashley Sellers, treasurer; Abigail Baker, I Soprano section leader; Maleah Doss, II Soprano section leader; Maddie Epperson, Alto section leader; Lily Dickenson, librarian, and Emma Eversole, historian and pictorial manager.

After the induction ceremony, Michelle Doss read the 2018-2019 vice-president’s note from Emersyn Noah and presented the vice-president’s book to her daughter, Makenna. Lauren received the president’s book after her mom, Brandee Nunez, read the 2018-2019 president’s note from Courtney Cozart.

The officers sang ”Diamonds” before forming the traditional friendship circle. Marilyn Unthank, who became a member of the Musettes in 1945, shared some encouraging words before the Musettes sang “Candle on the Water” and “May the Light of Christ” in the candlelit circle.
