Kingdom Come State Park’s Scarecrow Extravaganza will be held through Oct. 31 featuring scarecrows made by businesses and individuals from the Tri-City area that pop up all over the park.

The official Harlan Bicentennial Ghost Walk/Ghost Hunt with paranormal researcher Tony Felosi, a part of Harlan Haunt Fest, will begin at 6 p.m. on Oct. 5 (start at the Harlan Center). It begins at the Harlan Center and continues through the streets of Harlan to the actual courthouse location of the infamous 1942 shooting of Manzo Shepherd. Witness a live re-enactment that recreates the sights and sounds of the past.

Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College will host a free workshop, LGBTQAI+ Means What?, from 2 to 3 p.m. on Oct. 7 on all campuses through Skype. Presented with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, along with the Southeast Honors Program, the workshop will give an overview of the terms used within the LGBT+ community regarding sexual orientation and gender identity. Participants will be looking at current legal protections (or lack thereof) this community faces and explore how to best support students, family, friends and neighbors. The Appalachian-TREE Project’s will offer an eight-week Cooking Class Series ranging from budgeting to healthy cooking skills. This class is available to a limited number of adults who prepare meals for children 18 and under. The session starts on Oct. 7 and will be held from noon to 2 p.m. or 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church (across from Harlan High School). The Lights Over Evarts Parade is slated for Oct. 19 at 8 p.m. Line up will begin at 7 p.m. behind Evarts High School with the parade traveling through town and ending at the Off Road Park.
