Virginia man arrested after running from police

A man from Max Meadows, Virginia, was arrested after allegedly trying to steal from Walmart.

Austin Cooper, 27, was arrested by Harlan City Police Department officer William Clogston on July 20.

According to the citation, Clogston was sitting in his vehicle in the Walmart parking lot when a Walmart loss prevention associate yelled for him to stop Cooper. The associate told Clogston that Cooper allegedly shoved him while trying to exit the store without paying for an item, which was valued at nearly $50.

Clogston turned on his lights and began pursuing Cooper. Cooper then ran through a series of bushes when Clogston tried to use his taser to no avail. Clogston was joined by other officers and Kentucky State Police troopers to eventually apprehend Cooper with no further incident, according to the citation.

Cooper was charged with first- and second-degree fleeing/evading police (on foot), second-degree robbery and two counts resisting arrest.
