Hazard rolls past Harlan in area finals

Hazard/Perry County rolled to the Area 4 Tournament (ages 7-8) title with a 13-3 win over Harlan on Sunday at Huff Park.

Jayden Joseph led Hazard with a triple and three singles. Rylon Leason added four singles. Preston Collet had two doubles and a single. Tyson Fugate, Jayden Farley, Stone Combs and Brantley Dampier each added a double and two singles. Parker Collett and Bentley Cooper each singled twice.

Cooper Thomas led Harlan with a double and single. Hunter Coker, Derrick Holman and Isaac Noe added two singles each. Carson Sanders had a double. Landon Coldiron, Bentley Howard, Micah Shope, Easton Engle and Trey Creech added one single each.

Tri-City stayed alive in the tournament with a 14-7 win over Leslie County on Sunday in the losers bracket.

Hunter Blair led Tri-City with two triples and two runs scored. Landon Frith had an inside-the-park homer and single and scored two runs. J.D. Wilson contributed a triple and single. Byron Shepherd added two doubles. Tobey Lunsford, Caiden Pratt and Brycen Saylor each had two singles and two runs scored. Katie Smith also had two singles. Thomas added a triple. Robby Johnson and Jordan Smith contributed one single each. Katie Smith, Jordan Smith, Wilson and Shepherd scored one run each.

Tri-City will play Harlan on Monday for second place in Area 4.

Harlan advanced with a 6-4 win over Leslie County on Friday.

Jackson Mackowiak and Engle led Harlan with a double and single. Sanders had two singles. Coker, Creech and Shope contributed one double each. Howard and Isaac Noe contributed one single each.

Charlie Asher led Leslie with a double and single. Zack Thomas, Braxton Couch, Lucas Rice, Carson Crawford, Noah Adams and Carson Wilson added one single each.

Tri-City fell 14-3 to Hazard-Perry in a first-round game Friday.

Byron Shepherd led Tri-City with two singles, plus an RBI and a runs cored. Braxton Bennett had a triple and scored a run. Robby Johnson and Jordan Smith added doubles. Tobey Lunsford, Caiden Pratt, Landon Frith and J.D. Wilson each had one single. Lunsford drove in a run. Pratt scored a run.
