Howard leads Patriots to win over Cumberland
Carter Howard pounded out three hits to lead New Harlan to a 7-4 win over visiting Cumberland in the opening middle school game of the season Friday.
Caleb Brewer had two singles for the Patriots. Isaac Kelly added a triple. Chuckie Blackshire and Daven Johnson added one single each for the Patriots.
Samuel Henson and Colby Johnson shared mound duty for New Harlan. Henson struck out three and walked four in 2 1/3 innings. Johnson fanned eight and walked three in 3 2/3 innings to earn the victory.
Shawn Carroll and Tyler Lunsford each had singles for Cumberland.
Carroll pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and four walks.
