Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) has named its Students of the Month for November 2018: Aaron Jones, Whitesburg campus; Danielle Saylor, Harlan campus; Paul Lewis Browning IV, Cumberland campus; Austin Nolan, Pineville campus; and Garrett Johnson, Middlesboro campus

A second year student in the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program, Aaron Jones came to Southeast having already earned bachelor’s degrees in history and education from Eastern Kentucky University. According to Aaron, “I chose Southeast because it was an affordable option to begin a career in the medical field.” He says that the next step in his educational journey will be medical school.

Danielle Saylor says that attending Southeast “was the best decision I could have made. It has allowed me to focus on the classes I need, and it has been affordable. The professors and staff are willing to work with you to help you achieve your goals.” Recently, Danielle was accepted into the Appalachian College of Pharmacy in Grundy, Virginia.

In his second year of study in criminal justice, Paul Lewis Browning, IV plans to graduate in December 2019. He says he chose our college “because I felt that it fit my field the best. It’s close to home, and it’s not very expensive.” He adds that Southeast faculty and staff are “truly second to none.”

Aspiring surgeon Austin Nolan says that he chose Southeast in order to pursue a degree in surgical technology. “Thanks to the enthusiasm and kindness of the staff here at the Pineville Campus, my decision to choose SKCTC has been exciting and rewarding.”

U.S. Marine Corps veteran Garrett Johnson is pursuing a degree in Southeast’s Emergency Medical Services Paramedic program. He says, “I knew Middlesboro had a great program for EMTs and paramedics with a high success rate.”

Each SKCTC campus has a Student of the Month selection committee appointed by its campus director. In making its choice, the committee weighs criteria such as academic performance, extracurricular activities, work ethic, helpfulness to others, and whether the student has had to overcome significant barriers in achieving academic success.
