Lady Bears rally 41-37 win in Hazard

Freshman guard Ella Karst fired in 18 points on Thursday as visiting Harlan County defeated Hazard 41-37.

Karst, a transfer from Harlan, hit nine of ten free throws while scoring 13 points in the final quarter.

Jaylin Smith tossed in eight points for the Lady Bears. Kelly Beth Hoskins scored seven. Kassydee Owens finished with six. Jacey Lewis had two points.

Hayley Caudill paced Hazard with a team-high 17 points. Andrianna Harris scored nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Chelsea Proffitt also added nine points. Libby Danner had two.

HC shot 36 percent (12 of 33) from the field. The Lady Bulldogs shot 42 percent (14 of 33).

Harlan County opened district play at home against Bell County on Tuesday.

The Lady Bears entertain North Laurel on Thursday before traveling to Knott Central on Saturday.

Kylie Noe scored 15 points and Taylor Lunsford added nine as Harlan County rolled to a 48-15 win in the junior varsity game.

The Lady Bears also got eight points from Taytum Griffin and seven from Hailey Austin. Paige Phillips scored five while Kylie Jones and Taylor Clem tallied two each.

Mia Rouse led the Lady Bulldogs with 10 points.
