Harlan Tourism Executive Director Brandon Pennington and his team recently developed a fun activity for locals to play while giving COVID-19 time to run its course. Although to Harlan Center is closed, residents can eat local and use their receipts to play restaurant bingo while dining rooms and other businesses are closed.
“We know that during the COVID-19 outbreak, our local economy is going to be hit hard. Many of our local restaurants are innovating how to serve our community by offering pick-up, drive-thru, curbside, and more! Let’s continue to support our local restaurants and make it fun while doing so,” the group said in a post on Facebook.
The goal is just like any other game of bingo, only if you hit five restaurants in a row, column or diagonally, you are automatically entered into a chance to win a $50 prize. If you max out an entire card, you’re entered to win $150.
“There are 30 bingo cards and you are allowed to pick any of the cards you would like. Upon picking your card, we are asking that you save the receipts from the places you order from as it will be your proof that you have hit bingo. All purchases must have been made on or after March 19. If you get five in a row, you win!”
Pennington said locals can digitally submit their cards and receipts by sending them to the Harlan Tourism email at htcc@harlanonline.net, sending them via Messenger to their Facebook page or mailing them to P.O. Box 489 in Harlan. Submissions cannot be delivered by hand as the Harlan Center is closed to the public.
“Any five in a row, column, or diagonally will enter you into a chance to win a $50 grand prize or $150 prize (if you max out the card) on March 31. On April 1, we will start a second round of City Harlan Restaurant Bingo that will conclude April 30,” he said. “You will notice that restaurants that have closed due to the Coronavirus outbreak are not listed on the cards. All other restaurants the city of Harlan and food trucks offering some form of drive-thru, take-out, delivery, curbside, etc. are listed.”
