With an abrupt end to the regular archery season for the Harlan County Public Schools Middle School Archery League, the school system still wanted to recognize teams and individuals for their accomplishments. Highest competition score for teams and averages from the season’s competitions for individuals took the place of the cancelled championship competition outcome. Nine schools participated in the league this year.

The team score was based on the team’s best performance this season at any of the competitions that hosted three or more teams. JACES took first place with a score of 2,598. Green Hills was runner up falling behind JACES by just 19 points. Rosspoint rounded out the top three with a high team score of 2493.

Individual recognition is also a staple of archery. The league wanted to recognize the best of the best this season by figuring up the average scores of the best shooters to determine the top three male and female recipients, along with the shooter of the year.

Evarts brought home the bulk of the female division with Haley Huff averaging 271 for a first-place finish. Huff also outshined competitors with that score and earned the shooter of the year award. Alexis Freeman, also from Evarts, pulled in second place with an average score of 263.2. Shyenne Cantrell, from Green Hills, had an average score of 262.6 and third place finish.

Rosspoint, James A. Cawood, and Cumberland managed to average out in the male division and earn first, second, and third place finishes respectively. Dallas Sergent, from Rosspoint, averaged 270.5 for a first-place finish. Ethan Rhymer, from JACES, averaged 264 for second place. Gaberiel Bolen, from Cumberland, topped out the male division with an average of 262.6 for third place.
