Wallins man arrested for sexual exploitation offenses

A Wallins man was recently arrested as a result of an undercover Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation after the individual allegedly uploaded images of child sexual exploitation online.

Scotty Ward, 38, was arrested by Kentucky State Police, Electronic Crime Branch, troopers on March 3 at approximately 6:13 p.m.

According to a KSP press release, the investigation resulted in the executive of a search warrant at a residence in Wallins, with the equipment used to facilitate being seized, as well. The equipment was taken to KSP’s forensic laboratory for more investigating.

Ward is charged with twenty counts of possession/viewing material portraying a sexual performance by a minor and five counts of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $20,000 full-cash bond.

In other police activity:

• Amber Maggard, 31, of Loyall, was arrested by Harlan Police Department officers on Feb. 28. She was charged with second- and third-degree possession of controlled substance (drug unspecified), public intoxication of controlled substance (excluding alcohol), illegal possession of legend drug and prescription controlled substance without proper container. She was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $500 full-cash bond;

• Mary Callahan, 28, was arrested by Harlan Police Department officers on Feb. 28. She was charged with first-degree possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine), first-degree possession of controlled substance (opiates), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, third-degree criminal trespassing, three counts non-payment of court costs/fees/fines and failure to appear. She was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $2,500 full-cash bond and three pay-or-stay bonds totaling $1,401;

• James Stephenson, 30, of Harlan, was arrested by Harlan Police Department officers on March 1. She was charged with second-degree assault, operation of motor vehicle while under the influence, failure to produce insurance card, no registration receipt, failure to wear seat belts, failure to/improper signal and contempt of court. He was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on two full-cash bonds totaling $6,000;

• Angela Templeton, 48, of Harlan, was arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Office deputies on March 3. She was charged with first-degree possession of controlled substance (methamphetamine), second-degree possession of controlled substance (drug unspecified), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, contempt of court and tampering with physical evidence. She was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $2,500 full-cash bond.
