CORBIN — Corbin coach Isaac Wilson is hoping his Lady Redhounds’ 56-44 win over Harlan on Friday night will carry over some momentum into next week’s 50th District Tournament.

The Lady Redhounds finished out the regular season with two straight wins after defeating Pineville 57-54 on Tuesday night followed by a 12-point win on Friday night.

With the win, the Lady Redhounds finished out the regular season with a 17-12 record.

“Tonight (Friday) was big for us,” said Wilson. “To end the season at home is important and to obviously end it with a win is important. It’s a good momentum swing to be heading into the district tournament with a win and we’re just excited and ready to play on Monday night.”

The Lady Redhounds saw their 7-5 lead disappear when Harlan’s Natalee King knocked down a shot to tie the game at seven apiece followed by two free throws by King to give the Lady Dragons the 9-7 lead with 2:46 left in the first quarter.

Harlan held onto that lead heading into the second but it didn’t take long for the Lady Redhounds to find themselves back in the lead.

A three-point play by Corbin’s Bailey Stewart gave the Lady Redhounds a 14-11 lead with 7:00 left in the game. Harlan took over the lead one other time in the quarter, but it was Corbin that came out on top going into halftime, 22-19.

The Lady Redhounds outscored Harlan 20-9 in the third quarter to take a 16-point lead heading into the final quarter of play, at 44-28.

Though Harlan outscored the Lady Redhounds 16-14 in the fourth quarter, Corbin’s third quarter lead helped to keep the Lady Redhounds in the lead.

“I’m proud of the team,” Wilson said. “I feel like we had multiple people score, multiple people contribute and defensively I felt like we were aggressive, which really helped us.”

The Lady Redhounds were led by Shelby Stewart with 17 points while Marsia Scott had 12 points.

Ella Karst scored 12 and Angel Wynn added 10 to lead the Lady Dragons.

Corbin will be back in action on Monday night where the Lady Redhounds are set to face Whitley County in the 50th District Tournament at 7:30 p.m. at Whitley County.

“I think all 29 of our games have prepared us for the tournament,” Wilson said. “As a coach, you always know that everything is preparing you for tournament time. You’re always trying to be the best version of yourself that you can be each and every year and this year, we feel that we’ve done that. Now it’s time for us to go and show what we’ve worked on all year on Monday night.”

Harlan (11-17) will play Harlan County on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the 52nd District Tournament at HCHS.
