Middlesboro, Harlan split district doubleheader

Middlesboro rallied from an 11-point deficit going into the fourth quarter for a 49-47 win Tuesday over visiting Harlan in a 52nd District clash.

Senior guard Jabari Kyle scored 12 of his game-high 26 points in the final period to lead the 16-8 Jackets. Trey Brock added 13 points.

Sophomore guard Jordan Akal led the 10-11 Dragons with 24 points.

The loss by the Dragons clinched the top seed in the district for Harlan County, which will travel to Harlan on Friday for a girls/boys doubleheader. Middlesboro, Harlan and Bell County are all 2-3 in district action. Middlesboro will travel to Bell County on Friday.

Clutch free throw shooting helped the Harlan Lady Dragons end a five-game losing streak with a 41-40 overtime district victory Tuesday at Middlesboro.

Guards Ella Karst and Angel Wynn hit eight of 10 at the free throw line in the extra period to send Harlan to the win. Karst scored 17 and Wynn added 10 for the Lady Dragons.

Kailey Owens led Middlesboro with 17 points.

Harlan (10-12) plays host to Harlan County on Friday in a girls/boys doubleheader. Middlesboro (4-17) travels to Bell County on Friday.
