JACES, Rosspoint advance to finals

James A. Cawood and Rosspoint advanced to the championship game of the fifth- and sixth-grade county tournament, but they took much different routes to the finals with semifinal wins Tuesday at the James A. Cawood gymnasium.

Rosspoint rolled to a 55-29 win over Evarts as Jayce Brown led the 19-4 Wildcats with 28 points. Gunnar Johnson added 12.

Hayston Bennett paced the 9-8 Wildcats with 15 points.

James A. Cawood won a 22-20 thriller over Cawood in a game that went to the wire.

Kaden Jones led the 20-4 Trojans with 12 points.

Brady Smith scored eight to lead Cawood, which fell to 14-5 overall.

Cawood will play Evarts in the third-place game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Rosspoint will play JACES at 7 p.m. in the championship game. Both games will be played at Harlan County High School.
