Lady Bears’ comeback at Perry Central falls short

A late comeback fell short Tuesday as Harlan County fell 69-65 at Perry Central.

The Lady Commodores ended an eight-game losing streak with the win. Freshman Courtney Hoskins scored 17 to lead Perry (3-10), while Sydnee Minks and Chelsey Napier added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Senior forward Morgan Blakley led the 7-5 Lady Bears with 28 points. Sophomore forward Jaylin Smith added 13 points.

Hoskins hit a pair of 3-pointers as Perry outscored HCHS 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 34-24 halftime advantage. The Lady Bears cut the deficit to seven after three quarters as Blakey hit seven of 11 free throws and scored 11 points.

Harlan County travels to Shelby Valley on Jan. 14.

Led by 14 points from Kylie Noe and 10 from Hailey Austin, the Lady Bears won 44-41 in junior varsity action.

Taytum Griffin, Scarlett Rowe and Jenna Wilson added five each for the 2-2 Lady Bears. Taylor Lunsford scored four. Izzy Kirby chipped in with one.

Mullins scored 13 and McAlarnis added nine for Perry Central.
