Harlan girls split games in Florida tournament

The Harlan Lady Dragons split their first two games in the Inisfree Hotels Pensacola Beach Classic in Florida.

Eighth-grade point guard Ella Karst poured in 24 points as Harlan defeated Gulf Breeze, Fla., 57-42 on Saturday. Natalee King added nine points for the 6-4 Lady Dragons, who close tournament play on Monday at 4:30 p.m. against Washburn, Tenn.

Harlan fell 62-28 to Clarkrange, Tenn., in its opening game. The Lady Dragons fell behind 24-6 after one quarter and were limited to single digits in all four periods.

King led the Lady Dragons with 11 points.

Harlan fell 84-49 to Pleasant Grove, Ala., on Saturday in the second day of play at the Inisfree Hotels Pensacola Beach Classic.

Jordan Akal led the Dragons with 21 points.

Chris Lewis scored 20 and Brian Ross added 18 for Pleasant Grove, which blew the game open by outscoring the Dragons 25-10 in the second quarter.

The 2-7 Dragons will close tournament play on Monday at 3 p.m. against Rose Hill Christian, Texas.
