Dragons fall in tourney semifinals

Harlan won one and lost one on Saturday in the Cumberland Valley All “A” Classic at Harlan, finishing in the final four.

The Green Dragons opened the tournament with a 36-11 victory over Barbourville. Cole Cornett led the Dragons with 12 points.

Harlan fell 44-13 to Middlesboro in the semifinals. Gage Bailey, Chance Sturgill and Eli Freyer led the Dragons with three points each.

Gillespie led the Jackets with eight points.

Middlesboro defeated Pineville 47-44 in the finals. Pineville advanced with a semifinal win over Williamsburg.

Balanced attack carries JACES to win

Three Trojans reached double figures as James A. Cawood defeated visiting Barbourville 47-32 on Monday.

Jaycee Carter scored 15 to lead the Trojans, while James McMillian and Jared Rhymer added 10 each.

Landon Brock scored 12 points while Terry Delaney, Brayden Clay and Colton Delaney added 10 each as the Trojans won 43-28 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Brown leads Rosspoint to victory

Jayce Brown scored 15 points to lead Rosspoint past Black Mountain 44-11 on Tuesday.

Zack Madden led Black Mountain with five points.

The seventh- and eighth-grade game was postponed due to weather conditions.

Redskins edge Black Mountain

Cumberland marked homecoming night with a 40-38 win over visiting Black Mountain in seventh- and eighth-grade action Thursday.

Jonah Mumford scored 15 points and Hunter Cornett added 10 to lead the Redskins.

Reggie Cottrell paced Black Mountain with 23 points.

Shemar Carr scored 11 and Zach Madden added 10 as Black Mountain won 35-20 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Kayden Adams led the Redskins with eight points.

Cumberland travels to Rosspoint on Tuesday. Black Mountain plays at Wallins on Thursday.

Colby Shepherd scored nine to lead Rosspoint to a 38-8 win in fifth- and sixth-grade action.
