Sights and sounds of the season filled the streets of Harlan Saturday evening as the annual Harlan Christmas Parade drew hundreds to usher in the holidays. Joyce Cheng served as the grand marshal of the parade and waved to well wishers while riding with Miss Harlan County Lucy Bryson. Providing the glow of peace and good will was Ashton Marlow, riding on the award winning “Little Town of Bethlehem” float sponsored by Hilltop Outreach Ministries.

People lined the streets of Evarts on Sunday afternoon to celebrate the Christmas season with the annual Evarts Christmas Parade. Santa Claus visited the city — resting his sled atop a fire truck that chauffeured him around town for children of all ages to enjoy. Even an 11-year-old dog named Chelsey got into the fun by watching the parade and playing with local children. Chelsey’s family said she hasn’t missed a parade yet, and she loves to watch the colorful floats roll through Evarts.
