The Harlan Center Ice Rink has arrived in downtown Harlan for the second consecutive year, offering a fun opportunity for locals to get out of the house this holiday season and spend time together. Harlan Tourism Executive Director Brandon Pennington said he and his staff are “so excited to bring it to the community again.”

“We anticipate that we’re going to have a huge crowd like we did last year and that it will become an annual tradition here in downtown Harlan,” Pennington said. “We had so many people who kept coming to use last year and telling us how much they appreciated it being a part of the community, but also that it made downtown Harlan feel like the Hallmark channel. Hearing that, you know, we were just so excited. Harlan Tourism and the board wanted to bring it back to the community again.”

Pennington said the ice rink will be open every day except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day from Dec. 8 until Jan. 8. The hours for Monday through Thursday are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday is 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday is 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. The ice rink will also be open on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We have all sizes available,” he said. “If you are not comfortable wearing the skates, we do have these blue booties that you can put on your shoes and it still give you the same experience skating on the ice.”

Pennington added the rink is also available for private parties, field trips and group events. To schedule your event, call the Harlan Center at 606-573-4495 for more information.

“We’ve been looking forward to the arrival of the downtown Harlan ice rink since it ended last winter,” Pennington said, inviting everyone to come out and spend time together having fun at the Harlan Center.
