Over $7K worth of drugs confiscated in Smith

A man and woman were arrested Thursday night after deputies allegedly confiscated an estimated street value of over $7,000 worth of drugs.

Lauren Dozier, 22, of Harlan, and Victor Stewart, 25, of Cawood, were arrested by Harlan County Sheriff’s Office deputies Hunter Marcum and Chris Brewer on Nov. 14.

According to the press release, deputies received a call around 10 p.m. on Thursday stating a car was parked at a vacant home in Smith. Upon arrival, the deputies located Dozier and Stewart inside the vehicle, with a third person fleeing the area on an ATV.

After further investigation, the deputies confiscated over 70 grams of methamphetamine divided into separate bags packaged for resale with a street value of over $7,000. Prescription medications — such as Xanax, Suboxone and Gabapentin — along with marijuana, several items of drug paraphernalia and $401 in cash was also recovered from the vehicle.

Both were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree criminal trespassing, first-degree trafficking controlled substance (greater than or equal to 2 grams methamphetamine), trafficking illegal legend drug, trafficking marijuana, second- and third-degree trafficking controlled substance (drug unspecified) and public intoxication of controlled substance (excluding alcohol).

The two were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center, each with pending charges and a $5,000 full-cash bond.

The case remains under investigation by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office.
