Election officials across Kentucky recounted vote totals Thursday morning, which showed Gov. Matt Bevin trailing Governor-elect Andy Beshear by more than 5,000 votes.

Harlan County Clerk Donna Hoskins began the recanvassing process for the gubernatorial race at 9 a.m. Thursday in the Harlan County Courthouse. After thorough examination, no changes were reported.

Hoskins went over the totals from the county’s 33 precincts, which includes mail and walk-in absentee votes. Members of both Republican and Democratic parties were also in attendance to witness the recanvassing.

By the end of the recanvass, the number of votes per precinct were recorded the same as they were during the General Election on Nov. 5.

On Thursday at 2:15 p.m., Bevin told a number of media outlets that he would not contest the recanvass results, which presented no change in the outcome of the election. Bevin then wished Beshear well and promised it would be “a smooth transition between administrations.”
