Good for You

Michael McMeel spends his days building self-esteem, self-confidence and character into the hearts and souls of “at risk” kids with his nonprofit organization Inner City Slickers. Using a horse and the “cowboy code of ethics,” McMeel has turned around scores of inner city teens who have learned kindness, dependability and responsibility through the program. Inspired by the film “City Slickers,” the program builds strength and perseverance in the teens while teaching them the meaning of hard work. The veteran musician opened the doors of his New Tazewell ranch well over a decade ago to help kids from all over the region. It is not a “one and done.” McMeel stays in touch with every child who has been a part of this innovative program. Know someone else doing good in school or making a difference in your community?
