Evarts City Council members began reviewing a map of emergency address changes in the city of Evarts on Tuesday. The changes will be implemented over the projected course of a year, not only in Evarts, but throughout the county.
Evarts City Clerk Kristi Lamb said the changes are a result of duplicate street names throughout the county. Lamb added the changes will help ambulance drivers find homes they are dispatched to and present an easier method of addressing a new house being built.
“There’s not a lot of changes we have to make, so I’m kind of glad about that,” Lamb said.
Lamb took her time to explain to the council members the roads set to be renamed in Evarts, answering any and all questions they had regarding the map and name changes.
Lamb said after the changes are submitted and the Harlan County Fiscal Court approves its “side of the changes,” the post offices will then be given an updated list of emergency addresses.
“The post offices will be responsible for notifying the residents of their updated 911 address,” Lamb said.
Though the changes will begin taking place soon, there is no precise timeline of how long the project may take.
