Evarts opens season with a win over Mountain View

The Evarts Lady Cats opened the season with a 58-35 victory over four-time defending Leslie County champion Mountain View in girls seventh- and eighth-grade action.

Kylie Noe recorded 25 points and Ashley Preston added 17 to pace the Lady Cats.

Tori Robinson had seven points and Willow Peace added six, but Evarts fell 34-21 to the Lady Bears in the fifth- and sixth-grade contest.

Evarts opens the county season Monday at home against Cumberland.

Wynn, Karst lead Harlan to win over Lynn Camp

Led by 20 points from Aymanni Wynn and 15 from Ella Karst, Harlan claimed a 42-26 win Tuesday over visiting Lynn Camp in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action. Abbie Jones scored three, while Ava Nunez and Faith Hoskins added two each.

Harlan fell 43-38 last week at Middlesboro despite a 19-point effort from Karst. Wynn scored 16, followed by Nunez and Hoskins with two each.

Karst scored 13 and Wynn added 11 in a 42-24 loss at Knox Central.

The Harlan fifth- and sixth-grade team fell 27-6 to Lynn Camp. Raegan Goodman and Maliyah Washington scored three each for the Lady Dragons.

Harlan fell 23-15 at Middlesboro as Goodman scored six and Washington added four to lead Harlan. Peyshaunce Wynn and Gracie Hensley scored two each and Sara Kate Fisher added one.

The Harlan third- and fourth-grade team lost 11-9 in overtime to Lynn Camp. Halle Cox scored four to lead Harlan. Shealyn Bracket and Chloe Luttrell added two each. Harper Carmical scored one.

Middleton, Rhymer power Cawood to victory at Stinnett

Maddi Middleton poured in 21 points and Cheyanne Rhymer added 18 as Cawood opened the season with a 43-9 win at Stinnett on Monday in fifth- and sixth-grade basketball action.

The Lady Comets raced to a 29-1 halftime lead in coasting to the win.

Emily Stewart and Katie Smith added two points each for Cawood.

Cawood won 8-1 in fourth-grade action. Breanna Fultz scored four points. Emily Williams and Katie Smith added two points each.

Balanced attack carries Lady Dragons past Williamsburg

Three Lady Dragons reached double figures as Harlan rolled to a 50-25 win Thursday at Williamsburg in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action.

Ella Karst led the 2-2 Lady Dragons with 19 points. Faith Hoskins and Aymanni Wynn added 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Peyshaunce Wynn scored 11 as Harlan won 31-7 in fifth- and sixth-grade action.

Harlan returns to action Tuesday at Barbourville.
