Harlan City Police Department members recently participated in a campaign focused on nighttime seat belt enforcement. Harlan PD officer Mitch Alford said the police department hosted the event with the help of the Kentucky Department of Highway Safety, which provided a light trailer to help spot seat belt usage. Alford said many vehicular injuries at night are due to a failure to wear seat belts. “We received grant funding from the department of highway safety, focusing on occupant safety, such as DUI, seat belt usage and speeding, to help make the roadways safer,” Alford said. Members of the Harlan County Sheriff’s Department, Evarts Police Department and Loyall Police Department also participated in the campaign.
