Black Bears take second at UPike 7-on-7 camp

The Harlan County Black Bears started their summer with an impressive showing in the University of Pikeville 7-on-7 Team Camp.
HCHS finished second with a 33-20 loss to Pikeville 1 in the championship game. The Bears defeated Pike Central 33-8 and Pikeville 2 23-20 in tournament competition. The Bears fell 21-20 to Fairland, Ohio in pool play.
Senior receiver Justin Brown had a breakout performance in his first scrimmage action with the Bears as he caught 10 touchdown passes, a “huge bring spot,” according to coach Eddie Creech.
Senior tight end Elisha Smallwood added seven touchdown catches. Junior receiver/running back Matt Brown had six touchdown catches Hunter Helton caught two touchdown passes, while Nick Helton and Demarco Hopkins added one each.
Hunter Blevins and Zack Potter led the HCHS defense with two interceptions each. Tyler Casolari added one.
Cody Clayborn and Jacob Wilson split time at quarterback for the Bears.
