A body was found at a house on May Street in Harlan on Saturday, according to officials at Kentucky State Police Post 10.
According to the press release, the residence has been abandoned for approximately six years. Troopers said the owner was cleaning up the property and noticed the basement door was open. The owner went to investigate and discovered a decomposing body.
Troopers believe the body matches the identity of a missing person in the county. The Harlan City Police Department office has been working the missing person case in question since December 2018. The body has been sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
The cause of death is still under investigation and will not be released until dental records are confirmed. Once confirmed, KSP will release more information.
