Cumberland Elementary School first-grader Brycen Saylor was announced as a finalist in the Kentucky Educational Television Young Writer Contest. With over 1,300 entries this year, his story, titled “The Trackless Train,” was recognized as one of the top pieces in the contest.
The story, written and illustrated by Saylor, is a nine-page story about a red train who traveled in grass rather than on tracks until one day the train gets stuck in high grass, loses his wheels and is hauled to a repair shop by a blue train. Needless to say, the red train now travels on tracks.
Saylor was notified by Tonya L. Crum, KET Senior Director, Education. He is the son of Derrick and Megan Saylor, of Lynch. He is a student in Ashley Creech’s first-grade classroom at CES. He received a certificate of recognition as well as a KET Young Writer magnet.
