Johnson tosses 1-hitter as Dogs defeat HCHS

Kyle Johnson pitched a one-hitter in the opening game and Hazard collected seven hits in the nightcap as the visiting Bulldogs swept a doubleheader Monday at Harlan County, winning 2-0 and 7-5.

Johnson struck out seven and walked one as held the Bears hitless until Garry Henson led off the seventh inning with a single into right field.

J Harris pitched well in defeat as he allowed only three hits while striking out two and walking four.

Hazard grabbed a 4-0 lead after two innings in the second game and held off a late HCHS comeback attempt.

Justin Brown led the Bears with two singles. Tyler Casolari, Jordan Steele, Quinton Boggs, Matthew Simpson and Jonathan Wilder had one single each.

Quinton Boggs gave up five runs in six innings on the mound. Tristan Cooper allowed two runs as he pitched the final inning.

North Laurel grabbed a 7-0 lead after one inning Friday on the way to an 8-2 win over Harlan County.

Brown, Henson, Steele, Harris, Zac Collett and Michael Simpson had one hit each for the Bears.

Brayden Blakley pitched the first four innings for the Bears. Steele pitched the final two innings.

Harlan County returns to action Tuesday at Perry Central.
