Lady Patriots split 2 in softball regional

New Harlan split two games Friday in the regional middle school softball tournament as the Lady Bears edged South Laurel 14-12 and fell 17-0 to Jackson County.

Rylie Maggard led New Harlan against South Laurel with a triple and two singles. Haley Austin and Abbi Fields each contributed a triple and single. Haley Mabes singled twice. Olivia Peterson and Aaliyah Lewis added one single each.

Maggard scattered seven hits while striking out four and walking four to earn the win on the mound.

Maggard and Austin combined on the mound against Jackson.

Passing for a Purpose Camp set May 25

The annual Passing for a Purpose Camp is set for May 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Coal Miners Memorial Stadium.

Children in K-12 are eligible to attend. The cost is $10 per camper and checks are payable to coach Eddie Creech.

Campers can sign up by contacting coach Creech at eddie.creech@harlan.kyschools.us or text 606-273-6437 with name, age, and shirt size.

T-shirts and food will be provided for all campers. Campers need shorts, shirts and cleats (if possible, or tennis shoes).

New Harlan triumphs over Jenkins

New Harlan edged Jenkins 6-5 in middle school baseball action Wednesday.

Thomas Jordan led the Patriots with a double. Daven Johnson, Carter Howard and Samuel Henson added one single each.

Henson struck out four and walked four in two innings on the mound. Colby Johnson struck out two and walked two in one inning. Daven Johnson struck out two and walked two in three innings.

J.B. Addington led Jenkins with two singles. Gaven Keith and Caleb Middleton added one single each.

Orioles claim wins over A’s, D-backs

The Dairy Hut Orioles improved to 7-0 on the season with a 7-4 win over the Commercial Bank Athletics in Tri-City Little League action.

Lexi Boggs led the Orioles with an inside-the-park homer, two singles and three runs scored. Robby Johnson had an inside-the-park homer and single. Brycen Saylor doubled twice. Juionna Johnson added an inside-the-park homer and double. Jake Hatfield had a triple and double. Liam Blanton and Paris Hatfield each added a double. Katie Smith had a single.

Landon Frith led the Athletics with an inside-the-park homer and two triples. Jordy Smith added two singles and two runs scored. Logan McClain had a triple. Kolbi Green and Tobey Lunsford added one single each.

The Orioles extended their win streak to eight with a 9-4 win over the Game Day Designs Diamondbacks.

Robby Johnson led the Orioles with an inside-the-park homer along with a double and single for two runs scored. Katie Smith contributed a two triples, a double and a run scored. Blanton had two triples and a run scored. Boggs had a double and two singles and two runs scored. McKenzie Adams singled twice. Saylor and Jonah Estep each added a double

Bryan Perez had a double and single and J.D, Creech singled twice for the Diamondbacks. Ethan Skroch had a triple and scored twice. Sienna Banks also scored two runs.
