The Harlan Green Dragons celebrated Senior Night with a little payback on Thursday. Harlan avenged a 20-10 loss to Lynn Camp early this season in the 13th Region All “A” Classic by rolling to an 11-0 victory behind a no-hitter from senior right hander Will Varner.

Varner threw only 67 pitches as he cruised through the Lynn Camp lineup with 12 strikeouts and only one walk.

“Will has had some time off from the mound to rest a little bit, which has helped his arm out. He came out tonight and had the velocity that he had at the beginning of the year,” Harlan coach Cory Estep said. “I’m really proud of him and the rest of the seniors. Tonight’s win was true team effort.”

Harlan features a 10-man senior class this season and eight started Thursday with the other two out due to injuries. Senior catcher Josh Knuckles drove in five runs with a double and two singles to lead the Harlan offense. Varner added a triple and double and scored three runs. Caleb Adkins singled twice. Kilian Ledford added a double. Michael Robinson, Jared Hawkins, Kanyon Hall and Shane Lindsey added one single each.

“I’m really proud of the boys and the way they came out tonight,” Estep said. “It’s always a plus to get a win on Senior Night. We played really well tonight and scored in every inning.”

The win was the second straight for the Dragons, who improved to 9-12 on the season.

“I know that we struggled some early in the year, but there have been sparks throughout the year that show what we can do. We have overcame so much adversity this year and seems like we are finally able to get through some of it,” Estep said. “I’ve told the boys that we need to continue to build on this momentum and take it with us for the rest of the year.”
