Portal 31 tour open following repairs

The spring opening for Portal 31, a local tourist attraction, was delayed because of some structural improvements but is now once again open for business.
“We had some internal issues to repair and that is now done and we are ready to tour,” said Jeff Wilder, chairman of the Harlan County Tourist and Convention Commission. The commission is the overseer of the Portal 31 Complex in Lynch.
Wilder was quick to emphasize that the work completed is not a part of the $2.55 million Abandoned Mine Lands Pilot Grant that was announced last fall to restore and enhance the attraction.
“We will be working on developing the plans for the improved attraction during the summer and working on the renovations during the winter closing,” Wilder said.
